The smartphone segment in India is heating up with new arrivals marking their entry almost every single week. Manufacturers do not want to be late for the show and each model they come out with depicts how far they have gone into making mobile phones smarter.
Though Android powered Smartphones are the trend, other mobile operating systems also put up a good show. Today we compare two of the hottest trending phones in the Indian smartphone panorama, one being the Android powered LG Optimus Pro and the other being the Symbian Bella powered Nokia 500.

It is still unclear why Nokia is delaying its first Android phone as its share in the Indian market is beginning to decline as Android is very much in demand. The Nokia 500 however is nothing short of remarkable features.
It comes with a huge 3.2 inch full touch screen display that is capacitive in nature whereas the LG Optimus Pro has a smaller 2.8 inch display because it has a touch and type interface in the form of a QWERTY keypad. On the looks factor, Nokia is definitely a class ahead. And it is lighter as well as it weighs just around 93 grams whereas the Pro weighs in at 128 grams.
The camera power is definitely in Nokia’s favour as the 500 sports a powerful 5 mega pixel camera as compared to the 3 mega pixels of the Optimus Pro. Both offer video recording but no HD recording functionality is provided by either.

On the multimedia and entertainment front, there is pretty much nothing to separate the two as they offer softwares that support a wide variety of media formats and even provide playback of high definition content.
But the lack of Android OS limits the number of softwares available in Nokia 500 whereas the LG Optimus Pro offers a wide variety of such apps that are freely available in the Android Market. Both the phones are equipped with a 3.5 mm audio jack and HDMI port for external media connectivity.
The connectivity options present in both the phones are pretty much a complete package when compared with other available Smartphones. You have USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi internet connectivity as well as high speed 3G internet accesses.
However, what might turn the tides against the Nokia 500 is the absence of the Android OS. Even though the latest Symbian Bella OS is good on its own, it does not stand up to the flexibility of the Android Gingerbread OS found in the LG Optimus Pro. The 500 however has a more powerful processor which is rated at 1 GHz as compared to the 800 MHz of the Optimus Pro.
If pricing is the main factor that is going to decide the fate of both the phones, then the 500 is obviously the winner as it is cheaper than the Optimus Pro but only by a slight margin. Both the phones retail under Rs 10000 and it is up to you to decide whether to go in for the reliability of Nokia or the flexibility of Android found in the LG model.
