The huge success of Android phones in India is compelling manufacturers to introduce more and more phones regularly and that too with affordable price tags. However, it is not just mobile phone manufacturers that are busy making advances in the Android market, but also leading cellular network providers like IDEA and Vodafone that are now making foray into the handset sale segment thanks mainly to the Android OS.
Today we take a comparative test to find out whether it is the carriers or the phone companies who have the edge. Our duel is between 2 soon to be introduced mini Smartphones namely the Vodafone Smart and Micromax A75.

Dimensionally both are small and cute with the Smart a bit smaller in accurate dimensional calculations. On the cuteness factor, though there is nothing to differentiate the two. The smaller size makes the Vodafone Smart lighter than the Micromax A75 by almost 20 grams but also takes a toll on its other features. The Smart offers a 2.8 inch capacitive touch screen display as compared to the larger 3.5 inches of the A75 which is also by the way capacitive in nature.
On the hardware stats, the Vodafone Smart has an Adreno Graphics processor but that doesn’t make too much of a stance against the powerful 650 MHz processor found in the Micromax A75. Both offer good internal memory capabilities besides offering up to 32 GB of external expandable memory via a Micro SD slot found in either of the phones. The A75 scores in the camera department though as it has a more powerful 3 mega pixel camera as compared to the 2 mega pixel of the Smart.

On the multimedia and entertainment specs, there is pretty much everything that you expect from a smartphone in both the models. They come with multi format audio and video playback softwares and offer good sound clarity via both the speakers and good quality headphones. Both have a 3.5 mm audio jack in common.
Connectivity options abound in either of the models as they are loaded with 3G, Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and Bluetooth connectivity. Internet surfing is almost seamless with the Smart pegged to probably offer some interesting data plans from Vodafone to promote sales.
The phones as we told earlier are intended to compete in the huge Android market of India but that area is where Vodafone failed to capitalise completely. It has offered the Smart with a weaker Froyo version of Android whereas the Micromax A75 runs the newer Gingerbread version thereby enabling it to get the competitive edge in terms of application and other software support. Nevertheless the Smart offers good compatibility with most apps found in the Android market.
The A75 does have some useful navigation applications like GPS but is a tad pricier than the Smart. The Smart is expected to be one of the cheapest 3G phones available in the market as it will retail for around Rs 5000. The Micromax A75 will cost around Rs8500 making it one of Micromax’s costliest phone yet. The wait is on and it is up to the users to decide which one to buy from these two great choices.
